Spanner Light illuminated with engine off - Wwood1991 - 10:th-Feb-2020

Hi all

Bit of a strange one. I purchased a 2013 Astra J 1.7 CDTI last September, and had a service light pop up every time the ignition was switched on. However after pressing the set/clr button on the end of the stalk it vanished and would reappear again only after the engine was switched off and restarted. I just assumed since the car was serviced before I got it the garage hadn't reset the indicator and never thought anything of it. Jumped in the car tonight and it popped up again only now it won't vanish, and stays illuminated even when the engine is switched off and they keys are out of the ignition.

Any ideas? Cars don't about 105,000, 6000 of those are from me.

Thank you

I would say it was a glow plug.

Best thing you can do now is get it plugged on and see what error codes are stored.

The "Service Vehicle Soon" (or SVS) message isn't anything to do with the car giving you a service reminder message.

Stupidly it's Vauxhall's way of telling you there is a fault with the car.

As Rusty has already said, probably a glowplug. Be aware that there are 3 different types though.
A bog standard one.
A pressure plug.
and a pressure plug for start/stop engines.

The pressure plugs aren't cheap either. IIRC, your car will have a combination of a standard plugs, and pressure plugs.

But we're purely guessing that's the problem. As Rusty also said, get the fault codes read out.
