Engine Oil grade / spec / amount - everson38 - 5:th-Jan-2018

Hey guys

Have a 1.7 diesel Astra J 62 plate. I am planning on changing the oil and filter weekend.

Can anyone tell me:

1)What grade is needed for my car

2) What specification I should be looking for on the back of oil bottle?

3) How many litres it holds?

Thanks again guys cannot find my manual.

Hi there I'm sure the 1.7 is 5.4 litres and you will need 5w30 also advise low sap oil due to the dpf filter, to be honest probably best going with Gm oil, there is a link to euro car parts version of low sap oil, you would need to buy 6 litres. But as I said above probably best with GM oil and see what the dealer charges for oil, if I remember correctly, I don't think they are to bad.

As said. 5.4 litres capacity for the 1.7 diesel engine. It's also mentioned in the handbook.

Dexos 2 oil is what Vauxhall recommend now.

Hey guys massive thanks to all who chipped in. Can I ask all for a mass feedback. I'm deciding between GM oil (dependant on price ) and also Castrol Magnatec 5w30 c3 . Can people tell me what brand they put in there's and tell me how u would rate it please.

Thanks.

Well mine has a golden label so it must be the best!

No, just kidding. I wouldn't know how to rate motor oil...
But I think it has all the specifications it should have and it's a good brand
Acea c3, Gm dexos™ 2 and it says it's good for the DPF and Cat.

RE: Engine Oil grade / spec / amount - Big Dave2 - 5:th-Jan-2018

I've heard mixed reviews about Magnatec, but generally positive comments about GM Dexos2.

The latter is what Vauxhall recommend. If it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for me.

Price shouldn't come into it. If you needed a blood transplant, you'd want the best putting back into your veins, not Tesco value.

Dexos2 can be picked up at reasonable prices on ebay and the like. Just make sure the seller has a very good rating.

Well what I'm trying to see is what people do. As I have tried OEM on my other and other brands and sometimes felt aftermarket is better. So just trying to see what people saying in their opinion

I only use GM oil but I have the "life time warranty" so just easier to use GM parts to save any hassle.

I get my oil from a seller on eBay at £20-22 delivered (normally 4-5 at once).
