My list of cars over the years - Migwell030744 - 5:th-Mar-2014

I have shown my Mk6 1.4 Sri Turbo in pictures in another thread but here is the list of cars I have had. Sorry no pics at the moment might find a few when I have time.

My car list from when I was about 21.
No.1 Ford Escort 100E side valve 3 Gears. Bought as a, none runner, it needed to be towed home. Took engine out and sorted various valve problems. Then had the chassis welded because of rust. Cost of car £5
No.2 This was a ford 100E van. Engine blew up on 2nd day Got my £10 back
No.3 A, Morris Minor: I bought it from a friend’s dad with 125000 on the clock. The gearbox fell apart going around a roundabout which also broke the crank shaft that had been knocking for a while, but still driving. Got engine and box from crashed car fitted £40
No.4 Part owned with my Dad A, Vauxhall Victor FB 1600 three speed on the column. In Cactus Green. It towed caravans to Lands’ End & Durness Highland’s in North West Scotland.
No.5 A, Mk1 Cortina 1200 4 door Good car after I put in a recon engine from ford cost £52 then put on twin carbs.
No.6 This was a, Ford Corsair Mk2 1700cc V4. When it needed a new clutch I found that Ford had put in the wrong engine which was a 2Lt V4 and so my insurance went up quite a bit, so it had to go.
No.7 A cream coloured Austin 1000 (Bouncy Car) made you feel sea sick.
No.8 Ford again Cortina Mk2 Estate 1600 re-worked the interior to look like a 1600E Gave suspension a hard time carrying bricks and plasterboard etc.
No.9 Bought a brand new Vauxhall Victor FE Transcontintal 2.3 SL Could do 39MPG at motorway speed with 5 people and full of luggage. I sold it to save up to buy a house & get married in April 1975.
No.10 My wife’s parents bought us a Ford Anglia to use to get to work as where we bought the house there were very few busses. Hand painted it to keep it going.
No.11 A, 4 door Vauxhall Viva, got run into while doing 70MPH. 3rd party did a runner.
No.12 8 various company cars usually Escorts and Orion’s. While we bought a new Ford Fiesta 950L in White. Stolen but recovered two weeks later. It was found in a Ford Garage used car forecourt.
No.13 Bought a 950cc Mk2 Fiesta in Baby blue. EX Demo 3000miles on the clock.
No.14 Rover 1600 Box shape in White.
No.15 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600L a smashing car over all, not much more to say on this one. Our Daughters are starting to drive now.
No.16 New Mk3 Astra Arctic 1600 8valve (to keep insurance down for Daughters driving it)
No.17 Mk4 Astra 1600 LS had three new power steering racks & two steering pumps also three EGR valves all under warrantee.
No.18 Did not like Mk5 Astra so I bought a Ford Focus 1600 Zetec. Best thing about that was heated screen.
No.19 And now My 1.4 Sri Turbo Mk6 Astra. Bought at 12700 has now done 32000 and had a new M32 box apart from brake light switch, NSF door speaker and door harness also window seal. I have fitted, reversing sensors and Mitek Bluetooth, and other bit of lighting.
That’s the lot, now retired so can’t afford to change anymore.

Don't forget that represents 48 years of driving from 21 years old. Getting on for well over 500,000 750,000 miles = lots of petrol and tyres.

That really is an impressive list. I like how you relate to your family throughout it.

Would you believe this was my first car?

There was no hope for it, as I was in the army back then and had no time for it.

Few years later I moved to motorcycles, see the first two:

There were more, after which I moved back to cars. The first was a Peugeot 306 XSI 2.0 (sorry, no pic at hand), which was amazing as a driving experience. Its chassis was so good, it was wizardry. As a full package, it was almost perfect- although it was around that time that Peugeot stopped being reliable, so I sold it.

Time passed with me using my dad's cars (as I did before- his cars are worth a tread on its own, he was driving since 1948!), but Finally I got this... Couldn't get over the Peugeot bug:

I sold it about a year after meeting my wife, as it was apparent we didn't need two cars. She also sold her awful Mitsubishi Carisma (if ever was a name unfit for a car...), and got a brand new 2008 Suzuki Swift 1.5, which I sometimes used:

The Astra replaced that in 2012. All the while I had a series of scooters for riding around town, last of which was this:

I sold it about a month ago- had enough with those. Will get a second car...

A very extensive list that makes interesting reading . .

I did struggle a bit to remember what some of the old cars looked like , but I always thought that the Vx Corsair looked a bit , eh different . It just seemed so much different at the front certainly , compared to other cars of the period. .

1. Ford KA 1.3 - Nippy little go-kart
2. Ford Focus edge tdci 1.8 - Loved the miles per gallon
3. Vauxhall Astra H SRi 1.9 CDTi 150 - Hated the M32!!
4. E60 BMW 530D - insanely fast! 218 bhp, was only 21 at the time, insurance didn't like it!
5. Ford Focus Zetec 1.8 petrol - quick ish... slow compared to BMW, fuel was horrid, horrid colour, just horrid...
6. Mazda 6 Sport 2.0 Diesel - quick! good on fuel! Looked quite nice apart from the flaking paintwork.. and the fact the cambelt was overdue by 40,000, me and dad changed the belt, tensioners and idlers, couldn't get water pump off though so PX'ed before it went wrong...
7. Vauxhall Astra J SRi 2.0 CDTi 165 S/S - Love it! No problems so far, 630 miles to a full tank, goes when I put foot down, and £30 a year to tax, what could be better!?

My list of cars over the years - tucpal - 17:th-Mar-2014

i don't have any pictures sorry
but i will give a brief idea of what i have own over the years

1, mini copper a real old one i was a paint sprayer many moons ago so it got a lovely lime green paint job
2, i got hooked on Beatles, for about 5 years i own 3 different ones
i had a low cal look that was yellow with a 2.0l camper van engine and quick shift gear box it was lowered to the floor
one with the porsche wail tail on the rear and full body kit and another show car low cal look
spent way to much money on them
3, i then picked up a lancia delta HF turbo god i loved that car till it went for a mot
and got told the thing had rusted beyond repair
4, Peugeot 309 GTI it blow up after a year of very aggressive driving
5, astra F 1.6 club totally went mad again and made it look like a GSI i still miss that car
6, ford escort mark 4 hated every minuet in it what a dull car that was
7, i then spent most of my time on motorbikes the list is endless i have owned so so many
8, astra h 1.8 estate it did get a body kit and lowered , i had that car for about 4 years and only used it for shopping and getting my fishing gear in the back
i was still mostly on motor bikes at this time
9, well a big crash knocked me out of work for nearly a year
so it was time to go back to cars again and along came the astra j i have had it since 2011.
