I picked up a 2005 1.6 Astra for £400 that was a non runner. Initial check over showed that 3 tyres and good clean inside and out. The main issue was the mechanical side. Once I got the battery sorted the car would just spin over, fuelling was ok so checked the HT side and found 1 spark plug in a very bad way it pulled the thread out of the head which I thought not a problem I'll helicoil it. Carried out a compression check and 0psi on all cylinders.

It looks like the belt might have slipped a couple of teeth. I've never seen a piston and 3 valves completely smashed to pieces before.
I'm now trying to decide whether to drop another engine in approx £450 or strip for parts
So I've got some plastidip on order for a few thing (you will all find out very soon)
If I have any left over I'm thinking of doing the air filter and fuse box cover??

Has anybody got a 5-door with Advanced park assist?
I have front and rear parking sensors but I want to retrofit Advance park assist.
Looking on EPC there seems to be to different looms for the front sensors but looking at the wiring there is no difference between parking sensors and Advanced park assist.
The back end seems to no change apart from the outer sensors need to be different.

I need all payments in by end of play 7th July to ensure we get a good spot and get the discounted tickets. I'm going to try and get some extra stand passes so anyone not meeting the deadline can order their ticket direct from the organiser and should still be able to get on the stand.
I'm coming up to my second year service which if I'm right means the brake & clutch fluid need to be changed.
I know the dealerships don't do it but I have my service done elsewhere (as I don't trust the dealer) so to get my lifetime warranty reactivated would I really need to change the brake fluid?
Or should I just buy a bottle of it and get my mechanic to tick it as done.
Changing your gear box oil is thought to be not necessary but i found it to improve smoothness of gear changes especially as i was having some issues changing from 1-2 and 2-3. The part number for my oil was which i got from my local dealership. If you need to know your oil number then contact rusty. I measured how much came about and it was about 1.75L and i put 2 full bottles back in.
1. Remove the belly panel undercarriage, you dont need to take it all the way off:
2. You will see this towards the passengers side, You need to remove the drain bolt which is the only allen key one in the area. Let this drain out. The bolt is magnetic so catches any broken metal or rubbish so clean this with frsh gear box oil. Once fully drained you can put the bolt back in
3. Look up towards the side of the gearbox where the oil has just drained from and you will see a thick plastic tubing, behind this is your reverse light sensor, this is where you can fill up the oil from. This picture is taken looking vertically. You can see the reverse light sensor hanging out
4. Put a funnel in the hole and run some tubing above your engine bay.
5. Pour the new gear box oil in, replace the reverse light sensor, belly panel and your done.
