  Engine Rattling
Posted by: sheppy1 - 24:th-Mar-2015, 17:59:48 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC Common Problems - Replies (39)

Hey All,

Just noticed an issue which started this morning and it was 3 days after vauxhall had my car in the garage for a check up.

Basically when I put my foot down at low revs I'm 3rd or 4th gear I can hear a metal rattling noise from the engine bay. It almost sounds like marbles rattling together or something.

Anyone heard of anything like this?

Thanks

  Rusty2009 in bad mood

Hi all be warned my hubby in bad mood after a middle aged woman insulted his car as he was doing 10mph over speed humps.
She started waving her arms about which caused Rusty to break quickly and jump out the car leaving my puzzled thinking I missed her hitting it. But then he starts asking if she had a problem before his response was how he is thinking of his suspension.
Then he goes red when he response with its better then a ford.
I then get told over and over how she told him to get a better car. Opps

He not happy that a ford driver tells him to get a better car after he has taking time and care over his baby. I think she was lucky to have been a woman and not a bloke.

Lol is all I can now say

How to install Sat Nav to a safe location
Posted by: grahamfromoldham - 24:th-Mar-2015, 11:08:30 - Forum: ICE - Replies (4)

This little gadget seems too obvious for me to post it online and technically it isn't a 'how to' guide. However, I'm sure there are drivers on this forum who may just have overlooked this idea so I'm posting it in case it helps someone.

Instead of having your TomTom stuck on the windscreen in your face, there is a 'gooseneck' available, some made my TomTom themselves and others that are after market. Mine is an after market one and may do the job better because as far as I know it is slightly longer and therefore easier to use, plus its cheaper.

This is what you need, available from Ebay sellers. Mine was bought from a UK seller but a quick search of 'tomtom gooseneck' should find what you're looking for. Someone in the US were selling them for $6.95 plus $12 shipping, about £13 delivered.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ME-10RL-STEP-1...54088c6d7b

I have the TomTom XXL so it uses the 'easyport' mount. Make sure you buy the right fitting for your sat nav. I believe they sell them for Garmins too.

The quarter light by the drivers door is the perfect place for it to go and on the photos below you can see that your vision is not affected by the position of the TomTom. Even better is that the cable nicely slots into the recess around the top of the dashboard above the instruments.

*Admin, if this mod is in the wrong place please move it appropriately.

  Sat nav Update info
Posted by: Rusty2009 - 24:th-Mar-2015, 08:11:42 - Forum: Interior How-to's - No Replies

Sat Nav update discs.
When purchased they are sold as Hardware and Software.
The hardware is the update of the Sat Nav, A New Firmware version.
The Software is the Map Program itself.
How to install a Map Update (The manual isn't clear on this and no instructions are given with the disc)

1. Insert the New Map CD into the CD player.
2. The screen will show that there's an update for the firmware.
3. Click Install.
4. It will ask if you wish to over write the Flash in the memory, click okay to do this.
5. Once the update has done (about 3-4mins) the system will reset itself.
6. Once it's reset, click the Config Button on the system, scroll down to Navigation Options.
7. Click "Map data Add/Remove.
8. Scroll down to select your update (uk, Europe, etc etc)
9. Scroll up to the install tab and click on it.
10. The software tells you it will take so long to install. (Mine took 21mins)
11. Install has completed

These instructions were produced when updating a CD500, other systems may vary from word to word. (CD 500 uses an Update Disc and not a SD card)

Built in sat nav updates, these are the people that sell them, they used to be called NAVTECH but there now HERE. Just need your year and model of system then it will show you if there's an update disc/SD card for your sat nav.
(This is who Vauxhall use to get map updates and discs from)

Retrofit Coolant and Wiper Fluid Sensors
Posted by: sheppy1 - 23:rd-Mar-2015, 19:36:43 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (11)

Hi All

Just looking into the sensors I would need to retrofit in order to get the wiper fluid and coolant sensors working as I'm thinking I'd probably get some use out of this so it makes sense to use it rather than have those warnings removed all together. Would be a project for when I have more money but wondering if the following sensors are the ones I need?

13195945 - Washer fluid

13276326 - Coolant

Also do these just sit between the pipes and the actual tanks themselves or are they a little more complex to fit?

Thanks
