Single to dual horn upgrade retrofit
#1
In this How-to, you'll see how you can replace your dinky single horn with a Dual horn.
Without removing the front bumper.

It seems Vauxhall decided that it was a good idea to put single horns in on a randomly select few Astra J's, no one knows why!
Cause it sounds like a clown horn on big cars like these!
So lets fix this!

Part number for the horn:
GM 13409130 "HORN,ASSY.,400/500HZ"
(or look up Astra J horn on Ebay)

Step 1:
Jack up your car, lift it or drive on ramps. (Be careful with ramps as the front end is rather low.)

Step 2:
remove the left side (UK passenger) side fog light surround.
by Following this lovely How-to!

if you look in the newly made hole, you'll find the bracket that holds the horn in place!

step 3:
Removing that clown horn!

Reach in from underneath and disconnect the horn's electrical connection.
you can then undo the single bolt holding the horn in place.

Once that bolt is out, the horn can be pulled out from underneath the bumper.

Step 4:
putting in the better horn!
Slide the dual horn from underneath the bumper. You can then hold it in place and bolt it in place form the fog light hole!
Once it's all bolted in, connect the electrical connection. test it out!

step 5:
put the foglight surround back in by reversing the tutorial mentioned in step 2

That's it!

Now your fat Astra won't sound like a Corsa B, but like a Insignia instead!

Result:

Single horn:

Dual horn:

That pretty cool, however removing the fog light surround have given me the idea of pushing back in one of my parking sensors as it have come loose, hopefully it will save me removing the bumper

That might be possible, but remember there's still a crashbar in the way.

Altho the bumper is quite easy to remove on these Smile

Very true but got small enough hands to hopefully push sensor back in otherwise as you say the bumper will have to come off.

guys, ref the ramps catching on the skirt. I too had the same issue, all i did was cut 4x 12 inch lengths of 2x2 timber I had in the garage and lay 2 of each onto the first step of the ramp and then carefully drive the car onto the timber. This lifts the front slightly, but enough so further movement does not seriously scrape the skirt, then after a quick check, on upto the ramp as normal.

Yes, the front end is rather low. It's why i placed that warning on step 1.

This car scrapes very easily on small inclines too haha

Yep, just you!

Well depends for me! I like dinky horns on small cars. It fits them better.

Big heavy estates for me need a proper dual tone horn. Big grin
